| What is "arrosto"? | ‘Arrosto’ means ‘roast’, or ‘roasted’. There is no direct translation for the verb ‘to roast’ – you would say ‘fare (to make) or cucinare (to cook) arrosto’.
There is no ‘feminine form’ of ‘arrosto’ – the word is invariable, regardless of what it describes. A favourite Italian expression of mine is ‘Tutto fumo, niente arrosto’ which literally means ‘all smoke and no roast’. It’s the equivalent of the English ‘all smoke and no fire’.
