What is "buongiorno"?

‘Buongiorno’ means ‘good-day’ in Italian. In the evening you use ‘buona sera‘. ‘Buongiorno’ and ‘buona sera’ are used to say ‘hello’ and ‘good-bye’. There is no direct translation in Italian for ‘hello’.
