| What is "calzone"? | ‘Calzone’ is a pizza which is folded over to encase the filling. ‘Calzoni’ are ‘trousers’ in Italian. Make very sure you don’t say this word without the ‘l’ – because there is an Italian term which sounds like that – and trust me, you do not want to ask an Italian waiter for it. CaLzone, please! It’s not an ‘almost’ difference – the ‘other’ word is a strong term of abuse, to say the least. Ordering it would indicate extreme ignorance, or extreme suggestiveness. You cannot say I have not warned you!
