| What is "Col’cacchio"? | ‘Col’cacchio’ is interesting. According to my source, it is an insult from the Roman dialect. (Italy has various regional dialects, some of which are so distinct they are considered different languages). ‘Col’ is Roman for the Italian ‘con il’ which means ‘with the’. ‘Cacchio’ is, uh, a male appendage. It translates more along the lines of ‘up yours’ in English, and is considered rude, but not excessively so. It is also the name of a chain of an upmarket and extremely highly-rated pizzerias in South Africa. See this article for more information. If anyone has any more details to share (tastefully please – delete is a but a click away), please do. |

Surely, it is simply – and rudely – and obviously – ‘arsehole’!
According to a friend, it’s actually more like ‘you d*%k’, but your delightfully blunt translation conveys the sentiment perfectly. Thank-you, Mario
I think Col’Cacchio make delicious pizza but I’m really curious about the thinking behind the name. Is it just a bit of a ‘leg pull’?
I think it’s a exactly that, Alessandra! I’m sure whoever thought it up must have had a good laugh about it!
