What is "eau de toilette"?
Eau de toilette is a more dilute form of a perfume than ‘eau de parfum‘. It is meant to be splashed on after a bath or shower, or used as a pick-me-up. It doesn’t last as long as the perfume itself because it is far less concentrated.
It is also referred to as ‘flower water’ or ‘toilet water’ – the latter never comes across well to my ear. Do not say ‘toilette’ like ‘toilet’ in English. If you use the correct pronunciation on ‘eau de toilette’, all hideous puns will cease, and you will stop people with a vile sense of humor in their tracks (you know who you are).
