What is "rooibos"?
‘Rooibos’ means ‘red bush’ in Afrikaans, and is a type of plant that grows in South Africa. When you steep the leaves of the ‘red bush’ in water, a reddish, distinctly flavoured beverage is obtained. Rooibos is very healthy – it contains high levels of antioxidants, no caffeine and low levels of tannin, which makes it suitable for even infants to drink.
Today Rooibos is found in various forms: rooibos espresso (made in the same way as a regular espresso, but using rooibos instead of coffee), rooibos latte, and rooibos cappuccino are all available. In my family, traditionally we drink rooibos tea with hot milk, or black with lemon. For some reason, I prefer it with soy milk. It’s very versatile, so you can freely experiment with it.
