| What is "Tempranillo"? | Tempranillo is a Spanish red wine grape variety. It produces dark, aromatic, fruity wines, with soft tannins which become very smooth in the barrel. In Spanish a ‘ll’ is pronounced like the ‘y’ in ‘yet’. It can soften further in many regions, where it sounds like a soft ‘j’. It never, ever sounds like the English ‘l’, and it grates when it is mispronounced like this. There is no reason not to pronounce ‘Tempranillo’ phonetically correctly – we have an equivalent sound in English! |
