| What is "tournedos"? | ‘Tournedos’ *(m) is used in both French and English to denote small round steaks cut from the narrower part of filllet of beef. Châteaubriand comes from the thickest part of the fillet, and filet mignon is the smallest part of the fillet. There is some overlap in definitions between tournedos and filet mignon. English speakers tend to mangle this word into something sound which like ‘tornadoes’. Listen to the audio, and check the phonetic spelling. ‘Tournedos’ is an invariable word – that means there is no plural or singular form – whether you refer to one, or to many tournedos, you don’t change it.
