| What is "Vino de la Tierra"? | Vino de la Tierra refers to Spanish regional wines which are not quite up to Vino de Calidad Producido en Región, but which may use a regional name. Literally translated it means ‘wine (vino) of (de) the (la) country (tierra)’. Note that ‘tierra’ can also be translated as ‘earth’, ‘world’ and ‘soil’, but it is used here in the context of the wine-producing regions of Spain. The Italian equivalent wine ranking is, roughly, IGT, or Indicazione Geografica Tipica wines, and the French is Vins de pays.
